Capital Punishment The Only True Justice Essay - 1604 Words

Justice cannot be served until the debate on capital punishment is resolved and all states have come to agree that the death penalty is the best way to stop crime completely. The bottom line is, one method of execution is just as brutal and as barbaric as the next, says Mr. Breedlove of the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty. This comes straight from the mouth of a member of a national organization against capital punishment. The American Heritage(r) Dictionary of the English Language, Third Edition defines execution as The act or an instance of putting to death or being put to death as a lawful penalty. So if Breedloves words hold true, then what he believes is that someone going out and killing someone is barbaric. They said it would be just as bad for her to be in that cell alone because of her depression, but does it justify her cutting short the lives of the two children who had no idea of their oncoming death. All grandeur, all power, all subordination to authority rests on the executioner: he is the horror and the bond of human association . Remove this incomprehensible agent from the world and at that very moment order gives way to chaos, thrones topple and society disappears. Says Joseph de Maistre, a eighteenth century French diplomat. He is right, if we give up our punishing a deadly criminal, then we throw our society into chaos and let the criminals freely do as they please. I would know I was safe if anyone that tried to fatally harm me would be put to death. But in this society when someone can kill someone, get sentenced to life, get paroled and then freed to go about and do the same crime again frankly scares me. Another thing that scares me is the fact that this country has softened up on criminals. Its hard to think that now a days everyone has a right, even though when you go against the law and are put in prison, you are suppose to be stripped of your rights. Not so anymore. Family Resilience Assessment The Family System Essay

Family Resiliency Assessment Introduction According to Walsh and McDaniel (2006), strengthening family resilience is understanding that resilience is more than surviving or escaping an ordeal. It is merely the capacity to rebound from adversity through the active process of endurance, self-righting, and growth (p. 4). In further grasping the framework of resiliency, this paper assesses my own family system by examining resiliency factors within myself and of my family origin. By looking through the lens of my own personal experiences, it allows me to see the characteristics that shape the successes and stresses that I have inhibited. The Family System In my family system, it is made up of my mother who is a widow; my father passed away at the age of 50 when I was only 16 years old. Then there is my brother David who is 28 years old. Although only two years younger than me, he is like the DNA replica of me, so much so that people get us confused with one another. While I have locs and he is completely bald people still get us mixed up (even members within our own family); we have gone the majority of adulthood telling people we are twins. Two years apart from my brother and four years younger than me is my 26-year-old sister Chanel. Why Farts Are Awesome Free Essays

People are too uptight. Or maybe people just don’t realize how funny farting actually is. And by people, I mean the feminine half of the population. We will write a custom essay sample on Why Farts Are Awesome or any similar topic only for you Order Now The difference in opinion between the sexes on the humorous value of a good fart is one of the most telling signs that men are far more evolved than women. Or at least have a better sense of humor. Dammit, farts are funny. So what brought this on, you ask? Well today at work, I had to fart. So naturally I ran over to where one of my coworkers was standing, lifted my leg, scrunched my face up, and let ‘er rip. Apparently, that was rude. Well, excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu uuuuuuuuuuuse me. After I farted on my coworker, every single male working starting laughing their asses off, and the females looked at me as if I’d just committed the most heinous crime one can commit. The manager tried to keep the peace by politely asking me to not fart on people, but it was one of those times where you’re trying to tell somebody not to do something, yet you just can’t stop laughing. I was forced to admit that farting on someone is rude. Yeah, so? It’s also very freakin hilarious. We do it to each other all the time, well, the guys anyway. We’ll run over to each other’s workstations, rip one off, then run away laughing as the other person covers their nose. Then an hour later they’ll get us back. And you know what? It’s damn funny too. So of course when I farted on my coworker people asked me if I would think it’s funny if someone farted on me. Not especially, but it would be damn funny to them, and if they did it to me and didn’t laugh, I’d kick their ass. Of course it isn’t funny if you’re on the receiving end, but it’s comedic gold if you deliver a well-timed stinker to a friend. The humor value of a fart is judged by the level of humor in the eyes of the farter and the third-party audience, if applicable. The fartee’s perspective doesn’t count. That’s the whole point of getting a good laugh at the expense of others. I don’t mind if people get a laugh at my expense. It’s the rules of the game, you live by the sword and die by the sword. I can take a fart from someone else, but you can bet your ass I’ll be delivering one with your name on it. You see, if God didn’t want people to fart on each other, he wouldn’t have made it so funny. God wants us to fart in the funniest manner possible. Usually that involves assaulting the nasal passages of your fellow man. Farting is just funny. I mean think about it, it stinks, it makes a funny noise, and it comes out of your ass, how could it possibly get any funnier than that? As a matter of fact, I challenge you to name five things in life that are funnier than nailing somebody else with a big stinky fart. I don’t think it’s possible. To help all of you appreciate the art of farting a little more, I have taken the liberty of coming up with a few farting tips from a farting pro. If possible, make certain someone else gets the pleasure of smelling your fart. A fart nobody else smells or hears is an opportunity wasted and lost forever. If you have to fart and you’re standing next to someone, bend your ass and â€Å"aim† toward them. This doesn’t really make it any smellier for them, but it adds dramatic effect and makes the experience funnier. If you have to fart, and nobody is standing right next to you, hunt someone down, then lift your leg, scrunch up your face, and let it go. For bonus points, try to corner someone and then fart on them. Also for bonus, get down on your knees as though you’re looking for something on the ground. Ask for help. As soon as the good samaritan gets on their knees to help you, quickly move your ass right up next to their face and let go. When someone is giving their opinion and you have to fart, say â€Å"You know what I think about that? † and then scrunch up your face and fart. When you have to fart and someone is walking in your direction, hold the fart until the are directly behind you, then release. If you’re sitting down when you fart, lift the ass cheek facing the person nearest to you, that way they get the full effect. Upon completion of the fart, say â€Å"aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh†, as though you’ve just taken an eleven-pound shit. Quickly claim the fart as your own handiwork, especially to those who didn’t hear it. If you don’t tell them, they may never know you just farted. Raise your arms over your head as though you’ve just won the World Heavyweight Title in front of thousands of people. Announce what it was that made you fart. Make sure to use lots of description. Rather than say â€Å"I need to stop eating so much Mexican food†, say â€Å"God damn, those three bean burritos went right through me, I’ll be lucky if I don’t get diarrhea. † Describe to all around you how the fart felt as it came out. For example, was it a wet one? A cheek burner? Did you feel like a giant gas bubble in your stomach popped with the fart’s release? Do you need to go to the restroom just to make sure a little feces didn’t escape as well? Rate the fart. Unless it was a dud, in which case you shouldn’t have done all the buildup. But if it was a good one, talk about what a great fart it was and how you wish you’d had a video camera. How to cite Why Farts Are Awesome, Papers

Name of painting Large interior, Los Angeles Name of painter Essay Example For Students

Name of painting: Large interior, Los Angeles Name of painter Essay It stood out with its bright colors and vivid play of light. Its light played with the objects on the canvas and even though there were no people or animals on the painting it felt full of elite. This painting portrays an apartment in Los Angles. It has a lot of furniture of different geometric shapes. Also the ceiling is triangular. This form of painting amuses me because of the multiple geometric shapes placed in one location. There are circles, squares, trapezoids, ovals, rectangles and triangles, They are placed next to each other in interesting patterns. The rectangles are with strangle and the triangles on the ceiling are all together. There are objects that have unknown geometric shape. Also there are objects with soft edges and hard edges. Some of the couches have rounded edges that are very pleasant to look at. The trapezoids and other parallelograms are hard-edged and catch the attention Of a viewer right away _ The hard-edged shapes are not pleasant but, in fact they are useful. The hard-edged shapes are used to balance out the soft- edged shapes in the painting so it is evenly mixed. This causes a beautiful blend of shapes. The lines on this painting are very diverse. There are sharp, thick, jagged, curved, choppy, smooth, vertical, straight and diagonal lines on this painting. The ceiling in this painting is filled jagged, thin and sharp. This is mixed together to help make a very interesting ceiling. The ground itself in the painting is filled with thin choppy fuzzy sharp lines in turn making the ground look like a wooden floor. The objects are very different in this painting. Some have sharp lines, like the tables and others have smooth line like the couch near to the center of the iron. These lines cause the shapes to have the full affect of their beauty to appear _ The textures of this painting are also very diverse, going from rough to cottony. The shiny texture can be seen with the left wall next to fireplace. This is where the white sheet Of paper can be seen reflecting light causing it to be shiny. The smooth and cottony textures are used for a couch and sofa to make them look relaxing. Hard and rough texture is dominant in the bottom right side Of the painting. The shapes with this dark texture make an affect of not wanting to look in that direction. The colors in this painting are the most varied have ever seen. They fill up all the checks given in the art criticism check sheet. There are bright, dark, soft and light colors. These colors were used to make a combination that makes this painting the beauty that it is. There are oranges, reds and yellows seen in the same location causing a very appealing look. Blues, greens and violets are brought together in certain objects to make them look cool, The trapezoid table on the bottom right of the painting is a good example tot such a combination. Also the use of opposite and neutral colors are very informant in this artwork, They combine to form a red green door and the gray orange and brown ceiling. The design of this painting is also amazing. This painting is asymmetrical. Both sides of the painting are totally opposite. There is no detail that portrays symmetry. The light plays a great deal in this painting. The light shines from the top left corner slowly moving to bottom left oeuvre there is darkness. Without this play of light the painting would be extremely boring in my opinion. The light makes all the furniture look alive and breathing. At the center of this painting is a flower vase standing on a round table. It is where look first when focus on the painting. After seeing the flowers I can observe the rest Of the painting With ease. .u2025e34f47157df5e0acb022d65dc575 , .u2025e34f47157df5e0acb022d65dc575 .postImageUrl , .u2025e34f47157df5e0acb022d65dc575 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u2025e34f47157df5e0acb022d65dc575 , .u2025e34f47157df5e0acb022d65dc575:hover , .u2025e34f47157df5e0acb022d65dc575:visited , .u2025e34f47157df5e0acb022d65dc575:active { border:0!important; } .u2025e34f47157df5e0acb022d65dc575 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u2025e34f47157df5e0acb022d65dc575 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u2025e34f47157df5e0acb022d65dc575:active , .u2025e34f47157df5e0acb022d65dc575:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u2025e34f47157df5e0acb022d65dc575 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u2025e34f47157df5e0acb022d65dc575 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u2025e34f47157df5e0acb022d65dc575 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u2025e34f47157df5e0acb022d65dc575 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u2025e34f47157df5e0acb022d65dc575:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u2025e34f47157df5e0acb022d65dc575 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u2025e34f47157df5e0acb022d65dc575 .u2025e34f47157df5e0acb022d65dc575-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u2025e34f47157df5e0acb022d65dc575:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Critical Review of a painting at the Jaycee Park Center EssayThis is a strange painting because it has no depth and is not 3 dimensional. Depth and 3 dimensional Objects would have been a great addition to this painting. It would help the painting look real beyond belief. This painting by David Hackney is a success in my opinion. He combined light with shapes and color and formed an ultimate image. This painting with only two faults of no depth and 3 dimensional perspective is otherwise one of the best things have ever seen. I hope that any other person that looks at this painting will agree with me and call this painting a masterpiece.

Midsummer Nights Dream Essays (930 words) - Operas,

Midsummer Night's Dream The play "A Midsummer Night's Dream" by William Shakespeare offers a wonderful contrast in human mentality. Shakespeare provides insight into man's conflict with the rational versus emotional characteristics of human behavior. Athens represents the logical side, with its flourishing government and society. The fairy woods represents the wilder, irrational side where nothing seems to follow any sort of structure. The character of Bottom the weaver is a direct reflection of these two worlds. He brings the rational and irrational elements of the play together in several ways. Nick Bottom is indeed one of Shakespeare's most memorable creations. He is first introduced during the casting of "Pyramus and Thisbe"(1.2.253). Bottom is ready to take on anything. He wants to play every part in the play. This can be seen as he says: "An I may hide my face, let me play Thisbe too. I'll speak in a monstrous little voice: ?Thisne, Thisne!'- ?Ah Pyramus, my lover dear, thy Thisbe dear and lady dear'"(1.2.43-45). Further along he states: Let me play the lion too. I will roar that I will do any man's hear good to hear me. I will roar that I will make the Duke say ?Let him roar again; let him roar again'. (1.2.58-60) Clearly, Bottom has complete confidence in his ability to sweep from one end of the emotional scale to the other. Perhaps he feels that playing only one role in the play is constricting and he does not want to limit his talent to one specific person. This is the basis of the difference between him and the lovers. He does not want to feel restricted by anything or anyone, thereby casting aside the idea that loving only one person is possible. As he asks: "What is Pyramus? A lover or a tyrant?" (1.2 17) and shortly thereafter remarks: That will ask some tears in the true performing of it. If I do it, let the audience look to their eyes. I will move stones. I will condole, in some measure. To the rest. ? Yet my chief humor is for the tyrant. I could play'er'cles rarely, or a part to tear a cat in, to make all split. (1.2.19-23) Here he gives us insight into his own personality and almost seems to mock those in love. When he says "let the audience look to their eyes" (1.2.20), he is directly touching on one of the themes in the play: the use of one's eyes in love, which according to Bottom means that people do not use their heads when in love and that it is an emotion merely based on superficialities. Whatever the case may be, it is obvious that he is much more of a lover than a tyrant. Bottom proceeds to show however, that one can love and be a tyrant at the same time. When he is transformed into the ass and shares Titania's bower, it shows his marvelous adaptability to adapt immediately to whatever life offers him. His energetic love of life, good nature and eager innocence obtains him this entrance into the "other world" so different from his own. Perhaps he is not completely incapable of feeling or understanding love. Starting from his position as a "rock-bottom" realist, he can, with the same vigor and joy he brings to whatever he does, respond to this power and believe. The fantastically transformed Bottom, the least likely candidate for the position in the world before his transformation, becomes a participator in the fairy world in the incredible role of being Titania's lover. But we see thus that it was possible after all. He can, in sum, be both a lover and a tyrant yet he knows that being in love is but a passing phase and that at some point, one must face reality again. When Bottom awakens from his "dream", his own manner of reacting to it is the best approach to the experience. Wonder, awe, and a very strong sense of the power beyond man's apprehension are communicated by his words here. "I have had a dream past the wit of man to say what dream it was. Man is but an ass if he go about t'expound this dream" (4.1.200-202). He rightly declares the unfathomability of his "dream" and feels most profoundly its power. He knows that it should be called "Bottom's dream"(4.1.208) for these correct reasons because, like being in love, it had no real substance. Some might argue that Bottom is a domineering, brash, self-centered personality, which would be a direct

Military Sciences 4 Questions - Essay Example On the other side, the interim government in Afghanistan was helpless because it was facing a number of internal and external problems like corruption, illegal trade of opium, underdeveloped economy and security breach. At the same time, Taliban was seeking cooperation with al-Qaida and to subdue the interim government in Afghanistan. In National Defense Strategy document, the defense secretary (2008) makes clear that â€Å"Violent extremist movements such as al-Qaeda and its associates comprise a complex and urgent challenge† (p.2). As the Middle East (say, especially Afghanistan) is considered as the core of international terrorist plots, the national interest of the United States is at risk in this area. To be specific, the 9/11 incident proves that al-Qaida in Afghanistan is behind the global spread of terrorism. So, the U.S. government must deal with the grass root level reason behind the global spread of terrorism. Almost all the world nations face the problem of terrori sm and religious fundamentalism. In addition, the problem of terrorism can be dealt with military involvement because other ways prove ineffective. Our military involvement supports the vital national interest because the ultimate aim of the US forces in Afghanistan is to interrupt and dismantle the international terrorist groups which operate from Afghanistan. ... So, one can easily identify that the situation in Afghanistan is worse and US security is at risk. Besides, military involvement in this area aims to keep pressure upon the terrorist groups like Taliban and al-Qaida. In short, military involvement in Afghanistan is unavoidable because it supports the vital national interest of the United States. 2. The Department of Defense (DoD)’s tendency to focus on conventional conflicts is based upon the Cold War strategy. One can easily identify that this strategy is not practical and is impossible to implement in irregular wars. For instance, the international terrorist groups make use of irregular warfare and conventional warfare based upon military power cannot withstand the same. So, the 2008 National Defense Strategy (NDS) is vital to counterbalance DoD’s tendency to focus on conventional conflicts. Within this context, NDS aims to implement a number of measures. One can see that the NDS provides ample importance to long-term effort by confronting the challenges faced by conventional warfare, which proved to be ineffective. From a different angle of view, NDS’s aim to adopt innovation into the context of contingency planning, development of different forces, and intelligence work are utmost important to amalgamate innovation into DoD. In National Defense Strategy document, the defense secretary (2008) makes clear that â€Å"We must tailor deterrence to fit particular actors, situations, and forms of warfare† (p.12). Besides, the NDS is aware of the importance of irregular warfare in Iraq and Afghanistan. For instance, irregular warfare tactics and partnership can be helpful to win wars in the Middle Eastern regions. One can see that NDS put forth innovative ideas to equip the security

Currency valuation is also a point at the top of minds of the consumers. The main problem is UAEs pegged currency against the US dollar. Dirham, its national currency is pegged against dollar. So as dollar loses value, dirham also follows suit. BMI estimates real GDP in 2009 at 5.4.0%, with another very good performance in 2010. Projected values are at rate of 5.4%, as a result of a small contraction in the oil sector (-2.6%), offset by continued out performance in the non-oil sector (10.5%). Thereafter, we see a cyclical slowdown to 4.5% in 2011 and 3.9% in 2012. (Economic Statistcis ) Channels of Distribution (Macro Analysis) Retailers The way retailers work in UAE is a little different than in other countries .There is not VAT or service tax and the more good news is that retailers are not required to report their quarterly earnings. The retailers thus have a bright future in this country shown by the recent success. UAEs retail market is growing relatively at a faster pace when compared to other developing economies of the world Mall culture has come as an advantage to the retailers who have been able to attract the local customers and tourists alike. (Oxford Business Group, 2010) Market Audit and Competitive Market Analysis Market Analysis The market for dairy products has been growing over the years globally with a special focus on Nestlà ©s products. Dairy products like yogurt have now started to be recognized as everyday snack. They are the most readily available food item in the eatables shop in almost all of the countries that Nestle exists in. (Weaver) The major factor that can influence a person to invest in the dairy product market is that it has been growing every year on an annual basis of 10%. The reason is inevitable. Nestlà ©s targets all forms of the society. Be it children or the youth or the aged, Nestle has products for all of them. This gives it an advantage over its competitors. Even though its recognition is not as high as the other products in the Middle East market, people had started considering Dairy product as nutritious edibles as a traditional mark in the food industry in the medieval periods. One can be worried of the fact that the history of the dairy product has not been on the expansion side. This is due to the rise in inflation. But at the same time there is a good deal of boom in the financial sector that accounts for the better future prospects of the products. The history of Dairy products in the market is that it has been a part of the local custom. Meals are considered to be the important routine of the day. It is certainly a custom to have a nutritious diet. This trend has been continuing ever since civilization began. As Nestlà ©s product like sweet curt or Fruit Yogurt has brought nutritious food is easily available readymade packs, it is highly recognized in most part of the world. One must also understand that other dairy products of Nestle include chocolates that add flavor to the rich vitamin and calcium content. As a result, it has been preferable from the time businessmen have taken it to higher standards. This is more beneficial for targeting the children. (Yogen Fruz (Canada) Signs UAE Franchise, 2010) It has been often said that the world has been progressing largely of late. Lets have a look at it from the Nestlà ©s products industrys perspective. There has been a greater progress in the nutritious food industry over the last decade then in the last quarter of a century. The percentage of people favoring Nestlà ©s product is more preferred than any other edible commodity, has gone up. It has gone up to 27% as against the mere 2.5% only some 15 years ago. This rise is due to the fact that Nestlà ©s food products have been gaining fame on account of the diversity of the products manufactured. If one gives a thought over the condition of nutritious food industry; he/she will put in a developing stage. But the development is not small. It has been developing at a rate no lesser than the other recognized industries. Lets consider Abu Dhabi for an example. The capital city of UAE has a good deal of cereal consumers. The recent surveys reveal that more than 17% of the population takes dairy products as a favorite snack (this includes the other products that Nestlà ©s manufactures). This is also a boon for the industry. Other than just the simple junk snacks, there is such a lot of variety in Nestlà ©s products that it has taken its food industry to the peak. The most preferred flavor in UAE is anything that which has a blend of chocolate in it. The company can certainly take advantage of this fact. (Our Brands) Keeping all these factors in mind, there was a survey of the number of people who have increased their consumption of nutritious food in the world. More than 70% of the population said that they have increased their nutritious food consumption (especially dairy products) over the last few years. This can boost up investment in the product. SWOT Analysis Strengths Company Name: The very name of Nestle brings with it the confidence of quality as it has reliability and trust associated with it. Usually, the consumers mind they prefer Nestle products over other brands time and again whether it is their Dairy product or something else. Quality: Nestlà © is the one of the biggest manufacturer of diary food products all over in the world. The Nestle name is synonym of quality. They have a tradition of providing food products of supreme quality. Most of their products belong to category of assured and certified quality confirmed by tests done by quality assurance companies. Its production facility is certified with ISO certifications and also, FDA approval certificates. But, the quality differs from country to country for example Nestle juices sold in UAE are all artificial and with preservatives whereas usually in other parts of the world such as United States they are preserved naturally with citrus. But this difference doesnt mean that products are of low quality anywhere in United Arab Emirates. Manufacturing processes: Nestle boast of having state of the art technology machines, Certified and proven process and techniques which facilitate them to produce best in the category. Trustworthy company: Nestle symbolizes trust. Consumers have faith that the product will be anything but harmful. No one should be surprised if Nestle yogurt will occupy the highest market share in the market of United Arab Emirates. Consumption in immigrants Culture: As discussed, many foreign nationals are living together in UAE. Outsiders constitute a big population in UAE. They are kind of used to most of the Nestle product including yogurt in their home countries therefore this population doesnt need education regarding Yogurt consumption benefits. Yogurt is usually used for various purposes including for cooking. Usually while cooking, yogurt can play an important role same as many local dishes that are cooked in Yogurt. Weaknesses Lack of awareness: One big drawback associated with the launch of Fruit yogurt in UAE or any Middle East countries is low awareness among the citizens. A lot of people dont know that any such type of product is there in the market. The product is already present in the market the acceptability among the UAE citizens is very low. Price: The other major weakness that the company possesses is that the selling price of Nestlà ©s products is comparatively higher than the competitors in ost of the countries it is present. The company accounts this fact to the intensive use of natural resources. But the end-users are the customers who are certainly not going to entertain such excuses. Big accounts: Company Nestle doesnt carry with it any fixed allotted funds for advertising high. Its budget for advertising is fixed as a percentage of its sales. This type of strategy usually backfires when product is losing market when compared to its competitors. If the sales are not getting high so will be advertising therefore the products sales suffers a lot. Availability: Availability of normal Nestle product is also a problem for Nestle. It also contributes to the low sale Nestle product as of now in UAE. Retailers dont want to keep product which has low acceptability in the market but takes a lot of space in freezer space. But Nestle do give their retailers a freezer which increase its products visibility therefore sales. Therefore the retailers who dont have space constraint usually accept the Nestle product wholeheartedly. But the problem comes when its given freezer is utilized to put other FMCG product of higher demand in market or competitors product. Lack of Distributors interests: Distributors usually dont accept Nestlà ©s product because of its need to be transported in chilling environment. Nestle fruit yogurt need to be transported in chilling environment of nearly 2- 3 degree Celsius. Therefore whichever distributor who is willing to accept the distributor relationship will have to fulfill the requirement of having a capability to transport on this demanding condition of maintaining chilling condition in transportation and distribution. It is kind of costly affair for distributor under until and unless Nestle occupy a large market within a very short span of time so that even distributors can get economy of scale. Chilling need: The basic requirement of Nestle fruit yogurt to keep it a chilling temperature all the time makes it difficult for even retailers to accept the product. They have a fear of the case that in case if they are not able to sell its proper quantity they will have a huge carrying cost of the product. Therefore they dont want to accept the product in very in initial phase of the product launch. This is a risk factor which company will have to wave off offering higher margin on its yogurt product as co pared to any other product. Low Expiry date: Nestle fruit Yogurt product has low expiry date. Whatever the keeping condition it has maximum expiry time of 10-15 days. This makes retailers to sell the product as soon as possible. Therefore Nestle product are kind of tension of tension to retailers when it comes to their dairy product section. This is also another hindering factor which will affect the yogurt sales in its initial days. After every 10-15 days every stockiest have to refresh its product line. Even if te retailers start putting the yogurt because of Nestlà ©s brand name, the sales in initially sales consistency cant be guaranteed therefore there will not be any limit on amount of their stock that will go waste because of the expiry. Opportunities Potential market for fruit yogurt: Nestle fruit Yogurt is nutritious food product mainly ad from milk and has very low fat as compared with the milk. Fruit flavor ends its sourness associated with it. Therefore nutritious food with good taste has a great potential market in UAE. There is kind of big market for Nestle to explore. Presence of other nationalities and hot climate works as a topping on the already existing potential market for Nestle to cherish. Most of the sil=milar product has huge acceptability and good thing is that Emirates have high per capita Income which will work as a advantage for the Nestle to putting their product in premium segment and gaining huge profit from this segment. Climate of UAE: United Arab Emirates climate is an extra advantage for Nestle to Ancash. It hot climate prompt residents to have some cold nutritious products daily. Usually in summers, ice-cream sales increase a lot but still there is a need to find a substitute having similar frosted class as well as some health benefits associated with it. Here Fruit yogurt comes to fill the gap. The consumption of yogurt in the summers in most of the south east countries is as follows: plain form Lassi meal component such as raita culinary The high use of yogurt in its fruity flavor form gives Nestle one big opportunity to sell frosted fruit yogurt in summer-time. Tax exemption: Absence of any Value added tax VAT or sales tax in UAE prompts lower price of most of the products and therefore higher amount of sales in UAE. Many companies have entered the market seeing this facility only. This also give companies to make more and more profit on their product as the VAT or sales tax part of the price usually is shared by either the customers or by companies. The amount saved by companies here as part of no Vat can be utilized for better advertisement and educating consumers. Threats Competitors: Competitors are already there in this market in UAE market. Out of these competitors some are really very serious and have a reach on international scale. Some major firms who have presence in UAE market are : Pinkberry frozen yogurt Marmum fruit yogurt Al ain dairy yogurt Yogen fruz Al rawabi fruit yogurt   Yogurberry frozen yogurt So it will be bit difficult for Nestle to compete with these players. It has spend heavily in the market for advertisement and brining awareness about its new product. Competitors Analysis Competitors are already there in the market with their yogurt related product in the market. Some of the famous brands which already have their yogurt product in the market are as below: Pinkberry frozen yogurt Marmum fruit yogurt Al ain dairy yogurt Yogen fruz Al rawabi fruit yogurt   YogurBerry UAE frozen yogurt Yogen Fruz is an international brand which has specialty in this section of frozen flavored yogurt. The YogurBerry UAE LLC is famous master franchise of YogurBerry group present in the United Arab Emirates. YogurBerry claims to be classy, healthy and different. YogurBerrys has opened its first outlet in Dubai, in late June 2009 to make Dubai get exposed to totally different culture of taste. Similarly, other players are also geared up to cover UAE market as soon as possible and they are playing every tactics to attract consumers towards them to reap a first movers advantage as soon as possible. Porters five forces  [3]   The threat of substitute products Nestlà © products entry in the market is a bit late. Fruit yogurt nestle is subject to face crisis as too many players want a piece of this market. Actually product fruit yogurt will face competition from local unflavored Dahi which is available at much cheaper rate than Nestlà ©s fruit yogurt. This fact will be intensified by the fact that local most of the time prefers local items over foreign items. We can also say that it will face competition from ice-cream. Here the only advantage it has is it contains low fat as compared to ice-cream but age-old ice-cream concept is difficult to be substituted with relatively new yogurt concept. The threat of entry of new competitors Many entrepreneurs are willing to invest in this field of dairy product diversity on account of the health conscious trend that has been continuing in the recent past, as it comes under the booming sector. So, the only option left for Nestle to prevail is to maintain a constant switching of costs and make proper use of its brand name. This has been seen in many other companies like HP. It is therefore recommended that with constant switching, Nestle will be able to provide its users with the products in the time span they want. The threat of competitive rivalry Food Snacks is a field where competition doesnt just come from price dimensions but also from innovation and advertisement. Nestle should realize the number of competitors it has and the diversities in which they exist. Sometimes, the reason for the late delivery of products is also competition. Different rival companies can make negotiations with the producers for the delay. Nestle has to be careful of this fact. The bargaining power of customers  [4]   Nestle dealers will be forced to keep higher prices of products to compensate for some bargain. This generally happens at villages or types. At the same time they should also keep price sensitivity in mind. So, Nestle dealers have to make a proper balance between price sensitivity and high market price for bargain compensation because there can be decent customers as well on visits to such places who might have to pay high once, but then never return or buy the commodities at their respective places. This is because one wrong step leaves a mark on the entire supply chain and finally has an impact on the company as well. Such are the customers who finally realize the companys conditions and deliberately make orders that the company cant fulfill. Nestle should not give a chance to any customer with such views. The bargain power of suppliers Nestle is more or less a Food product company, so it owes much of its pricing to its suppliers. The raw materials that it uses, determine the costs of its products. So, it is highly beneficial to have a team which is good at bargaining to keep the cost of production low. This requires a good deal of ground level work. Marketing Strategies 4Ps Product Nestle fruit yogurt which is currently offered in 3 major different flavors in most of the countries. The main flavors which are offered are peach strawberry mango in 100g cup. Strawberry can be said to be most popular of all the 3 flavors and it is usually consumed more than other two. Nestle usually keeps on adding the flavor in the country in which is already present using the flavors that are famous in those very countries. The yogurt is already there in the market in UAE but the problem is that not a large part of UAE crowd is in fan of this yogurt thing. Say it a lack in promotion by other marketers or their targeting on elite class, this product really needs to be market through educating customers. The rate of consumption among Emirates needs to be increased to increase the overall sale of the product. The quality of product is not questionable; as it is part of trustable nestle group. Price The price set by Nestle of the fruit yogurt is minimal in most of the countries like India and Pakistan. It is around 15 rupees/cup. Seeing the flavors which are being offered at this price, it is considered very reasonable. The main fact that Nestle has to refresh its stock after every 10 15 days is a problem. Therefore selling only at Nestle special stores will make Nestle to manage inventory well. Selling this awesome project at this affordable is the main thing which makes Nestle popular in all the markets. We can say that seeing the per capita income of emirate people that the product will be great hit in the market and Nestle can charge premium price for the product at later stage. Place Like all the other countries, Nestle should launch its product only in the major cities in United Arab Emirates. The main reason is that the urban people due to large per capita income are ready to use new product which they think is of good quality and have value for money. People in small cities are used to of their own brand and their tendency tgo use their favorite brands all the time make them a bad customer for Nestle. Targeting only big city will make its product to sell in bit low volume but it will be good for Nestle in maintain its goodwill and help Nestle to charge a premium price from its urban consumers. Company can target anything between 5000 to 10000 retailer in 2 years of time span. Promotion Last P which symbolizes promotion related with marketing interface. It is suggested the promotion plan of Nestle should be through following mediums. TV program Billboards Advertisement in newspaper, Magazines and television Banner Kiosks TV Program 5 minute of daily TV show @ 8:30 pm Nestle should broadcast a re

The Relationship Between Political Processes and Science Essay

The political processes involved in the production of scientific facts and technology continues to be misrepresented and underemphasised in contemporary academic and wider public discourse. This is evident when considering the approaches employed by historians, philosophers and commentators when interpreting past revolutions, paradigm shifts and controversies in science. In this failure to account for the intrinsic association of politics, scientific facts and technology, it has led to the problematic distortion of how science relates to society and operates as an institution. Several assumptions are often made about science, for example the existence of an objective ‘scientific method’. Naà ¯ve inductivists who maintain this view claim that â€Å"science starts with observation†, and secondly that â€Å"observation yields a secure basis from which knowledge can be derived† (Chalmers, 1982, p. 22). This standard model of science raises much concern as it negates to account for the complex nature of observation. Firstly, Gestalt imagery demonstrates the variety of distinct meanings which can be extrapolated from one image and so a variety of stimuli. Secondly, the standard story of ‘scientific method’ through observation is weakened when considering the importance of ‘gaps’ within science, shown through the Solar Neutrino case study. Scientists observed the activity of solar neutrinos and in 1967, when data begun to transpire, inconsistencies were noticed which defied their predictions. There were disagr eements concerning the reading of the results and from 1968 to 1978 the scientific community continued in their attempt to resolve the ‘gaps’. A crucial question arises, which interpretation of the image or data is ‘correct’ or ‘legitimate’... ...999, p. 17 - Bishop, J. and Landell-Mills, N., ‘Forest Environmental Services: An Overview’ in Selling Forest Environmental Services: Market-based mechanisms for conservation and development, Earthscan, London 2002, p. 30 - Ede, A. and Cormac, L., A History of Science in Society: From Philosophy to Utility, Broadview Press, Ontario, 2004, p. 209 - Kill, J., ‘The Scientific Uncertainty of Carbon Sinks’ & ‘Why Carbon Sinks Won’t Help Stop Forest Destruction’ in Sinks in the Kyoto Protocol: A dirty deal for forests, forest peoples and the climate, FERN, 2001, p, 9 - Kuhn, T., The Structure of Scientific Revolutions, The University of Chicago Press, 1996, p. 56 - Pinch, T. How Does of Mice and Men Present the Life of a Migrant Worker

John Steinbeck did represent the lives of migrant workers in his novel Of Mice and Men. The lives of migrant workers were hard, challenging and unrewarding. Migrant workers suffered from poverty because they were low-wage workers. They were forced to travel between American states in search of seasonal work . In the novel; John Steinbeck shows the harsh reality of their lives. During the Great Depression most men were forced to move around on their own to make money to send home to their families. Most felt isolated and found it hard to make friends as they moved around so much because of the nature of their work. Loneliness is a theme in this novel that is reflective of the time period in which the novel was written. Steinbeck shows the loneliness of the migrant ranch workers through Curley when one of the characters says â€Å"Curley ain’t giving no-one a chance,† this shows how reserved the workers become as a result of constantly being on their own and having no stable relationships. George and Lennie are different however, and do have someone they can talk to and throughout the novella most characters are suspicious of their close relationship. During the time when the book is set The American Dream was very much alive. During the time of The Great Depression many people packed up their families and headed for LA as that seemed to be the best place to go. Each individual had their own interpretation of their ideal situation for life. For many this would be fame or fortune but George and Lennie had their own idea. George and Lenny both shared â€Å"The American. Dream† of owning their own small farm house. This is what keeps both of the characters motivated throughout the novel. ‘Some day – we’re gonna get the jack together and we’re gonna have a little house and a couple of acres an’ a cow and some pigs and –‘, George and Lennie constantly repeat this phrase continuously throughout the novella. When George talks about the dream ranch Lennie gets really excited about it even though he has heard it a thousand times. Lennie finds that having the â€Å"dream ranch† repeated to him, soothes his mind and makes him feel happy. Also, it allows him to have something to look forward to. Many times during the book Lennie mentions taking care of rabbits. Lennie likes the fact that he will be able to have something to take care of and that they will be his own. Also, letting him know that he will tend the rabbits works as an incentive for him not to get in trouble, the quote â€Å"But you ain’t going to get in no trouble, because if you do, I won’t let you tend the rabbits† proves that Lennie will try to stay out of trouble as much as he can.

The Roles of Queens, Drones and Worker Honey Bees

The Roles of Queens, Drones and Worker Honey Bees Honey bees are social creatures that enlist a caste system to accomplish the tasks that ensure the survival of the colony. Thousands of worker bees, all sterile females, assume responsibility for feeding, cleaning, nursing, and defending the group. Male drones live to mate with the queen, who is the only fertile female in the colony.   The Queen The queen bee is the dominant,  adult female bee that is the mother of most, if not all the bees in the hive. A future queen bees larva is selected by worker bees to be nourished with a protein-rich secretion known as royal  jelly so that it can sexually mature.   A newly hatched queen begins her life in a duel to the death with any other queens present in the colony and must destroy potential rivals that have not yet hatched. Once she accomplishes this, she takes her virgin mating flight. Throughout her life, she lays eggs and secretes a pheromone that keeps all other females in the colony sterile. Drones A drone is a male bee that is the product of an unfertilized egg. Drones have bigger eyes and lack stingers. They cannot help defend the hive and they  do not have the body parts to collect pollen or nectar, so they cannot contribute to feeding the community. The drones only job is to mate with the queen. Mating occurs in flight, which accounts for the need of the drones for better vision, which is provided by their large eyes. Should a drone succeed in mating, he soon dies because the penis and associated abdominal tissues are ripped from the drones body after sexual intercourse. In the fall in areas with colder winters, worker bees mind the food stores and prevent drones from entering the hive since they are no longer needed, effectively starving them to death. Workers Worker bees are female. They accomplish every chore unrelated to reproduction, which is left up to the queen bee. In their first days, workers tend to the queen. For the remainder of their short lives (just a single month), workers keep busy. Newly hatched worker bees are larvae, unable to feed themselves. Worker bees feed their larvae a liquid called worker jelly, and they eat as many as 800 times a day to build up fat stores. After eight or nine days, larval worker bees spin cocoons and enter the pupal stage. Three weeks later, fully-formed worker bees chew through their cocoons; just a few hours later theyre ready to go to work. There are many jobs for workers to do, such as preserving  honey, feeding drones, building the honeycomb, storing pollen, removing the dead, foraging for food and nectar, carrying in water, fanning the hive to maintain the proper temperature, and guarding the hive against invaders such as wasps. Worker bees also make the decision, when necessary, to relocate the colony in a swarm  and then rebuild the new nest. Maintaining proper temperature for the hive is crucial for the survival of the eggs and larvae. The brood chamber for the bees young must remain at a steady temperature to incubate the eggs. If it is too hot, the workers collect water and deposit it around the hive, then fan the air with their wings causing cooling by evaporation. If it is too cold, the worker bees cluster to generate body heat.

The Healing Power of Music Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

The Healing Power of Music - Essay Example There are still other favorable aspects of music to people aside from the Mozart effect. This one aspect is the capability of music to heal people. This area does not have a certain approach or a definitive description. It plainly proposes that the wonderful creation of music can improve and enhance the condition of individuals in their physical and mental levels for a more holistic growth (Mount, 2004). This statement of music having healing powers has been demonstrated in various fields and areas like the bible, arts and literary forms. For example, in the Bible, the story of David depicted how the young boy alleviated and appeased the heart and soul of King Saul. The Greeks were also known for using lyres and flutes. The music created by such instruments is capable of healing. It was even suggested that Alexander the Great was restored to having a sound mind when he was made to listen to the music created by the lyre. Egyptian writings that already have more than two millenniums of existence illustrate how chants and charms were able to treat predicaments like barrenness (Heather, 2002). Evidently, these events in early history attest to the healing capabilities of music. Yet, it is still imperative to prove today the mechanism of how music can have healing powers and to establish whether or not this will really work. Dr. Balfour Mount, a professor at McGill University and specializing in palliative medicine, puts forth that this healing aspect of music can be associated with the life condition of the person. In an article, he discussed how this condition or quality of life is given a subjective interpretation. Thus, the meaning and value will vary from one person to another. Still, two common factors among different individuals are highlighted, that is 'satisfaction in life' and 'emotional well being' (Mount, 2004). In this regard, it is evident that there are inherent qualities in every individual that make them value the same thing despite their differences in situations and attributes. This can be gleaned from the fact that life is seen as a continuity or journe y that has to be traversed, and music, as proposed by Dr. Mount, can aid in supplicating energy to the person at whatever state he or she may be, be it of joy or sadness (Mount, 2004). Furthermore, people also experience different states. It is not as simple as having one or the other, just like how the statue of Buddha with three heads embodies this idea. The Buddha statue has three heads going into varying directions. The one heads to the right, the good path. The head at the other side leans to the left side minding the evil. The one in the middle and facing forward has a serene disposition, suggesting a state that resembles the disposition of the mind of God. Such representations propose that in life, there really is an option to find a peaceful and calming state of mind that is beyond merely choosing the good and evil. This is the exact state where a therapeutic music can lead a person (Oliver). Music heals by allowing the person to work on whatever he or she is confronted with at present. One must not worry at what happened in the past nor stress out on planning for the future. The whole process entails a 'letting go' of any 'literal or rational patterns of thought' and it also requires recognition of what happens in reality in a more 'imaginary, intuitive and metaphoric way' (Mount, 2004).
